Our program helps individuals 14 and older improve basic reading, writing, spelling and comprehensive skills necessary to meet the challenges they encounter in the workplace and other aspects of their daily lives. Our program was organized in 1983. It provides the only one-on-one tutoring available free of charge to anyone interested in improving basic skills. By making basic literacy resources available to adults at the very lowest level of reading ability, we can strengthen families and improve the quality of life for individuals and their families across the community. Services provided by Project: LEARN include free, confidential one-one-tutoring for county residents ages 14 and up. Tutoring is also provided for non-English speaking clients. Small group sessions are held for learners on a variety of topics. A student support group meets once a month. Our volunteer tutors are trained and certified in a 14 hours training session. Project: LEARN also offers four in-service training sessions per year, including English as a Second Language (ESL). A personalized learner assessment is provided to all students. Funding for our program is provided by United Way, special events, grants, and corporate and personal contributions.
